⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 STARS

Book Synopsis: When Alice Love surfaces from a strange dream to find she’s been injured in a gym, her first concern is for her unborn baby. She’s desperate to see her husband, Nick, who she knows will be worried about her.

But Alice isn’t pregnant. And Nick isn’t rushing to her bedside. She is a mother of three going through a bitter divorce.

Alice has lost ten years of her life — and she wants it back.

My thoughts:

Seriously, Liane Moriarty is such a talented writer! Her writing just connects with me so darn well 😀!

First off, the plot line is my dream story to read about. I love it when a divorced couple try to get back together or fall in love again like that’s just the best thing, especially if they have kids too 😍😍 (unless one or both of them cheated, then uh goodbye).

Seeing the story develop made me very happy with its process 😊😄. She’s 39 years old, nearly 40, yet when she injured herself, she can only remember being her 29 self. Can you imagine that? Losing 10 years of your life and then also realising everything that you have always known has changed around you? That would freak me out but it sure seems nice at the idea of forgetting all the sad and bad things that has happened in your life.

Liane’s writing flows extremely well. It’s fast paced and you don’t have to wait 20 chapters before reaching the “real” story. I love her writing because it connects to me 😆 (like I said in the beginning), holds my attention 🤗, and keeps it there for the rest of the book. That’s what every author aspires to do and she is able to achieve it so effortlessly 😍.

There’s Alice’s point of view, which takes up most of the book because she’s the main character, her sister, Elisabeth, point of view is written as a diary format and her granny, Frannie, viewpoint is based on a blog. They all contribute to the novel and have their own story. I particularly like Frannie’s story 😂😂!

Another thing about Liane’s stories is that they also focus on everyday society issues. In What Alice Forgot, the infertility struggle and emotions connected to it is explored quite brilliantly. Memory loss, traumatised experience and couple separation and how it affects the kids are all touched on as well.

This book is mainly about Alice wanting to remember her past 10 years again and fixing everything so it’ll go back to normal, well her version of normal as she still lives in the past. Getting back with Nick for example.

Turns out during Alice and Nick’s separation, Alice had been dating this other guy. 🙄. I’m just saying that I am 100% on Nick’s team.

Alice keeps remembering details about this mysterious woman that she doesn’t know. Her friends and family tells her that the woman was very important to her and she played a really large role on how Alice’s life has changed. For the better or worse, you decide. I thought it was half good and half bad. Leaning more towards the bad side. I don’t like how she caused the many struggles for Alice between her old friends and family. And Nick.

Alright, that’s it for the review! I really love it so much 💛 (Yellow hearts means more than red hearts for me). If anyone knows any novels or series about adults who are separated or divorced but end up falling in love again, please recommend. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Alice ended back with Nick (or does it? *wriggles eyebrows*) 😏😎
